Isuzu launches upgraded GIGA heavy-duty truck - New cab design with enhanced safety and connectivity -
Isuzu Motors Limited (headquartered in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan; President and COO: Shinsuke Minami; hereinafter “Isuzu”) will begin sales today of the upgraded GIGA heavy-duty truck (equipped with the 6UZ1 engine*1). This model will make its world premiere at the JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW 2025, which starts on Thursday, October 30.
To help eliminate wheel-separation, all GIGA vehicles are now equipped with the Wheel Detachment Prediction Detection System as standard, which is a first for automobile manufacturers in Japan. Isuzu is striving to prevent and mitigate accidents by enhancing safety support features for the practical application of autonomous driving technology in the future. Isuzu has also launched its new “body connected service,” allowing remote monitoring of the overall operating conditions of both vehicle and cargo body. In addition, a new smart and dynamic cab design has been introduced. With the new face, the upgraded GIGA trucks will continue to support the business operations of customers.

Key features
[Changes to exterior design]
Under the theme “THE ULTIMATE,” the truck expresses a presence befitting a flagship model that is both smart and dynamic. The grille design adopts the “World Cross Flow” brand identity motif, reinforcing family unity with the ELF light-duty and FORWARD medium-duty trucks.

[Evolution in safety and driver assistance features]
- 1Wheel Detachment Prediction Detection System equipped as standard on all vehicles

With the number of wheel separation accidents among heavy-duty vehicles growing year after year, Isuzu is the first commercial vehicle manufacturer in Japan to install as standard a Wheel Detachment Prediction early-Detection System in its vehicles. This system detects*5 abnormalities when wheel nuts begin to loosen and alerts the driver with a warning message and buzzer before a wheel separation occurs, helping prevent accidents.
- *5Detection covers rear axle tires only.
- 2Pre-Crash Brake (PCB) system for detecting pedestrians when turning right and left is equipped as standard on all models.

When the risk of collision with pedestrians crossing an intersection increases during right or left turns, the PCB system is activated to help avoid or mitigate a collision.*2
- *2Operation conditions: When the turn signal is activated, detection targets: pedestrians; detection target speed: approximately ≥5 km/h; vehicle speed: approximately 5–20 km/h. The system may not be activated if the pedestrian is not detected within the sensor's range or depending on body posture.
- 3Brake function to prevent left-turn collisions involving cyclists moving in the same direction is equipped as standard on all GIGA vehicles

Wehn the risk of collision with bicycles traveling in the same direction on the left side of the vehicle increases while turning left at an intersection, the brakes are activated to mitigate the damage.*3
- *3Activation conditions: When the turn signal is activated, detection target: bicycles moving in the same direction; detection speed: approximately 8–20 km/h or higher; and vehicle speed: approximately 5–20 km/h.
- 4Lane Keep Assist (LKA) now comes with a new side collision avoidance function

When the risk of collision with a vehicle in the adjacent lane increases during lane changes, LKA is activated to help avoid collisions by steering the vehicle back toward the center of the lane.*4
- *4Activation conditions: When the turn signal is activated, detection targets: motorcycles and bicycles moving in the same direction; detection target speed: approximately 25–120 km/h or higher; and vehicle speed: approximately 60–90 km/h.
[Enhanced connected features]
- Launch of Japan's first body connected service
(Equipped as standard on Ryojyu Coldchain's “G-Cargo Cool” and “G-Cargo Cool Wing”*6)
Isuzu is the first in Japan to offer a connected service that monitors the overall conditions of the entire vehicle, from the vehicle itself (e.g., engine, chassis) to the body equipment. By making use of the connected technology used in MIMAMORI, a telematics system for commercial vehicles, and PREISM operation support system, data for the vehicle and body is transmitted to the GATEX commercial vehicle information platform*7 via onboard devices. Moreover, by linking the data with the server of the cargo body manufacturer via APl*8, customers can monitor not only the vehicle but the operating status and conditions of the cargo body (including refrigeration units) through the dedicated web interface. This allows for faster response times and minimizes downtime (the time vehicles or cargo are idle).- *6Can be installed as an option on all models equipped with Ryojyu Coldchain's Diesel-Driven Refrigeration Unit. Planning to roll out to other vehicle models.
- *7Press release: “Isuzu, Transtron, and Fujitsu begin operations of commercial vehicle information platform GATEX” (October 4, 2022)
