Press Briefing at the 42nd Tokyo Motor Show

In addition, we put on display an omnidirectional monitoring system which has four cameras installed on the top of a vehicle to visually support, for example, a bus driver to check the safety of passengers as they get on or off the bus or a truck driver to protect pedestrians when he turns his vehicle.

"Mimamori-kun," an advanced transport information system offered by Isuzu, celebrated its 10th anniversary this year. Born in 2001 as a transport diagnosis system for fuel saving driving, Mimamori-kun developed to become "Mimamori-kun Online Service" in 2004 that can report vehicle conditions in real time and verify vehicle location by GPS. Today as many as 45,000 trucks are equipped with this system.

Our life is supported by delivery of goods at regular intervals through transportation. Necessary things are delivered to us when necessary. It is imperative to operate a highly sophisticated logistic system based on a safe transport control to realize such a delivery. We can encourage our drivers to drive on a fuel saving mode to save fuel, which will then reduce exhaust emission leading to environmental protection. Fuel saving drive also leads to a safe and careful driving, and fewer accidents may result.

After the Great East Japan Earthquake, Isuzu gathered data detailing truck operations from vehicles equipped with its Mimamori-kun Online Service and made it available everyday online in the form of a map summarizing truck operations according to the size of the truck; heavy-duty or light-duty in affected areas. The map is intended to serve as a reference resource to facilitate more informed truck operations in those areas.

Isuzu Motors released its Mid-term Business Plan in November this year. Slowdown of markets in advanced countries triggered by European financial problems has presented unclear outlook for future business. However, a potential demand for trucks is high in newly developing countries, and Isuzu will focus on these countries for its future growth. We will develop "products that will best fit the newly industrializing countries" along with the development of "products for low environment load" which we have been promoting for several years, so that we can vigorously meet the needs of our customers in the global market.

Isuzu will continue to support transportation for life in Japan and in the world. We look forward to your continued understanding and support. Thank you very much.
