a Medium-to-Heavy-Duty Bus in India Isuzu Motors Limited (Headquarters: Shinagawa Ward, Tokyo, President: Susumu Hosoi) started marketing Isuzu badge a medium-to-heavy-duty (MD/HD) bus for long distance and sightseeing routes in India this September.
The bus that Isuzu manufactures and sells in India is the LT 134, a medium-to-large-duty bus of 230 hp. that can accommodate from 40 to 45 passengers. The chassis is imported from Isuzu in Japan, while the body is built by local manufacturer Swaraj Mazda, which also assembles the completed vehicle. The buses are sold in India under the Isuzu brand. In addition to the medium-heavy duty LT, Isuzu plans to begin production and sales of the NQR, a light-duty bus that accommodates 20 to 25 passengers and is built on the Elf light-duty truck base, some time from the end of this year to next year. The bus market in India is about 50,000 vehicles annually, a number that is expected to grow. In this market, Isuzu plans to sell 400 LTs and 500 NQRs in 2008, the first complete year of sales, and 1,000 and 5,000 by 2012. To start manufacturing and marketing Isuzu buses in the Indian market, Swaraj Mazda has expanded its plant, while greatly increasing its production capacity. # # #
