Isuzu Recaptured the World Number One Position
in 2001 Medium Duty Truck Production In 2001, Isuzu Motors Ltd. recaptured the world number one position in 2002 medium-duty truck production, while maintaining the top position for combined domestic medium- and heavy-duty production with a GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) of at-least 6.1 tons (14,000 lbs) and over 16.1 tons (33,001 lbs) respectively, among Japanese truck makers.
Production volume statistics released by the automobile manufacturer associations around the world were used to compile these figures. These figures represent individual countries and do not include consigned production. Despite prolonged truck market slump in Japan, Isuzu maintained its production volume in 2001 at around the same level as the previous year. Meanwhile, the U. S. truck makers saw a significant drop in their production volume. In 2001, seven out of ten manufactures posted a year-on-year decline in their total production volume in mother countries. Worthy of special mention is a prominent decline of three U. S. truck makers' production volume, which was impacted by long slump in the North American heavy-duty truck market. 2001 Truck Production
