Isuzu and DaimlerChrysler Japan Holding will
Co-Develop a New Truck Fleet Management System


Isuzu Motors Ltd. (Isuzu) and DaimlerChrysler Japan Holding (DCJH) have reached a basic agreement on joint development of a next-generation truck fleet management system for Japan which implements advanced information management to realize greater efficiency of road haulage and related operations.

The new truck fleet management system, which will comply with the future Intelligent Transport System (ITS) in Japan, will establish a link between vehicles on the road, consignors, and haulage companies via an information network to enable interactive, real-time communication. The system makes it possible to increase the quality and efficiency of control operations including transport management, service quality management, and fleet management.

The new system will provide the following facilities to significantly increase the efficiency and safety of transport:

1. Transmission to active vehicles of package collection and delivery instructions and the optimum routes.
2. On-demand monitoring at the operation center of vehicle's situation and cargo compartment status.
3. Fast reporting of emergencies, including accidents and breakdowns.

Isuzu and DCJH will begin studying approaches to joint development of the system. Combining Isuzu's expertise in vehicle systems and truck fleet management systems with DCJH's know-how in the fields of mobile multi-media and telecommunications technologies, the two partners aim to launch the new truck fleet management system by the end of 2001.
