Award-winning “zero direct disposal of waste coolant liquid”

Isuzu Engine Manufacturing Hokkaido Co., Ltd. used to discharge untreated waste coolant (water-soluble cutting fluid) as industrial waste, but has started improvement activities aimed at zero industrial waste emissions.

The people involved in the activities looked at treatment methods using powdered coal, and conducted a series of theoretical tests to eliminate any issues in preparation for actual operations.
Having developed a treatment system combining disused plant equipment parts, they commenced operations in November 2015. Since operations began, they have managed to increase the annual volume of treated waste coolant from 180 tons to 270 tons and achieved zero emissions of waste coolant as industrial waste.
