Isuzu Group Energy-Saving & 3R Award
Isuzu Group Energy-Saving & 3R Award established in 2013 for outstanding efforts to improve energy-saving and the 3R ("Reduce, Reuse and Recycle"). The winner is selected from applications across the Isuzu group, with a focus on the manufacturing division.
This year, from among nine companies in the Isuzu Group, twelve entries were recognized as being outstanding in regards to energy-saving and fourteen in regards to 3R. The Grand Prize was awarded to a 3R entry that "reduces the use of butane gas through intermittent ignition of the pilot light in heat treatment carburizing furnaces." by JIDOUSHA BUHIN KOGYO CO., LTD.
Award-winning "reduces the use of butane gas through intermittent ignition of the pilot light in heat treatment carburizing furnaces."
This entry involved modifying the pilot light used in the flame curtain (which prevents explosions caused by air entering the furnace) that is used in carburizing furnaces operated all times. Instead of remaining ignited (for 24 hours), the new model ignites only when needed, thus reducing the butane gas consumed by the pilot light.
JIDOUSHA BUHIN KOGYO has introduced this improvement to all furnaces. This reduces yearly butane gas consumption from around 2,120 kilograms per automobile to 8.0 kilograms.
It also reduces the carbon dioxide emitted during combustion by 99.6% (from 6.38t of CO2 per automobile to 0.03t).
