Visiting Filipino Elementary School Supported by TABLE FOR TWO (TFT)
Through the cooperation of incorporated NPOs TABLE FOR TWO International and ACTION, Isuzu visited a Filipino elementary school supported by the TFT Program with Isuzu Philippines Corporation (Philippines). (January 21)
From June 2014, TFT support began for Balaybay Resettlement Area Elementary School (Republic of the Philippines, Luzon Island), where Isuzu visited this time, and by providing school meals the attendance rate of supported children rose to 98%, producing a virtuous cycle connected to the improvement of learning ability by escaping malnutrition.
In addition, TFT hires the mothers of supported children for school meal preparation and also provides instruction in how to improve dietary life. They are also making efforts toward agricultural instruction through growing vegetables in schools.
Isuzu will continue to support TFT activities in the future.
* The Balaybay Resettlement Area Elementary School (Republic of the Philippines, Luzon Island), where we visited this time, is located in a disaster victim resettlement area where evacuees from the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in 1991 are living, and because the victims of other natural disasters since then are also living in this area, high unemployment and poverty are serious problems.
* At TFT, according to the health standards established by the Philippines’ Department of Education, children who are diagnosed as underweight or malnourished are provided with school meals, and at this elementary school, out of a total of 800 students, 150 students receive TFT support.
