Good afternoon, I am Masanori Katayama, President and Representative Director of Isuzu Motors Limited.
I heartily welcome ladies and gentlemen of the press at our briefing today.
First, I would like to introduce to you our all-new-GIGA.
This model has world-premiere here at Tokyo Motor Show.

Environment surrounding us is changing hour by hour. Isuzu comes to terms with each of issues facing us regarding innovations in logistics and distribution, aging society, and energy. Isuzu now proposes a new type of IT-enabled networking solution in the all-new-GIGA.

In addition to improving performance of the new GIGA over the previous model, Isuzu offers a new way of supporting commercial transportation by collecting and transmitting vehicle operation data on the Internet in the fully remodeled GIGA, which is linked to IT networks.

MIMAMORI, Isuzu’s telematics for commercial vehicles, was launched in 2001. It has since evolved from simply preparing an eco-drive report through the monitoring of driving status including how the acceleration pedal was depressed or how the gear was shifted.

After years of the evolution, MIMAMORI, aboard the new GIGA as a standard feature, provides information services through the latest information and communications technology and GPS.

More specifically, the Isuzu telematics on the all-new-GIGA gives eco-drive tips to a driver on real time basis by monitoring his driving status. Furthermore, the system has a standard feature of detecting a sign of failure in vehicle’s key components (an engine and a transmission) before it actually happens by monitoring operation status of these components. Customers are alerted on the sign of the failure on the Internet.

At the same time, this information is conveyed to Isuzu through its main network systems, prompting inspection or preventive maintenance work for the benefit of customers’ uptime.
Naming this as “PRE-ISM” which uses information obtained with MIMAMORI, Isuzu has introduced this advanced support system to keep customer’s vehicles running.

On the safety front, the new GIGA becomes the first of all heavy-duty trucks in Japan to feature a pre-crash braking system which uses both a millimeter wave radar and a camera, the combination of which enhances the system’s detection capability of obstacles, in an attempt to mitigate damage, if any, in contingency.

The new generation GIGA also has a totally redesigned cabin. Designed based on ergonomics, its new interior provides comfort and allows a driver to concentrate on driving in the whole new cabin whereas its exterior delivers better aerodynamic performance.

In keeping with the new truck, its engine underwent a full model changeover as well, and now it boasts of power and fuel economy befitting a heavy-duty truck of the new era.

As mentioned above, the all-new-GIGA has not merely evolved in hardware or a vehicle itself. With GIGA linked to the network through the latest IT, Isuzu has taken another step in creating a new platform towards a total solution to different issues in logistics and distribution industry.

Incidentally, Isuzu’s heavy-duty truck dates back to TX which debuted in the aftermath of the war. On display in the first row of the booth is TX80 built in 1948. This truck supported reconstruction efforts in Japan as a forerunner of subsequent heavy-duty trucks in the post-war era. The craftsmanship and technology used in building TX still live on in the latest generation GIGA.

Also on display as reference exhibit is a CNG-powered heavy-duty truck.

Isuzu first introduced CNG trucks and busses in the market in 1993. Although CNG vehicles are eco-friendly for emitting less CO2, we had to work around the mileage issue in CNG vehicles, as it is shorter than diesel counterparts per one fuel filling.
As such, light-duty trucks and route busses dominated Isuzu CNG portfolio because they are mainly used for short to medium distance. Then, a CNG heavy-duty truck has joined the new GIGA lineup. That is because practical mileage for a heavy-duty truck was made possible for the CNG heavy-duty truck thanks to sweeping changes to the layout of fuel tanks in the course of development of GIGA, resulting in the efficient arrangement of the tanks.
In view of energy security, we consider it important to secure trucks and busses which run on fuels not deriving from petroleum. CNG trucks are going to be very important for expanding natural gas application as well.

Meanwhile, busses are increasingly important amid aging population because they are most familiar means of transportation for people. The all-new-ERGA, over there, is a next-generation non-step bus highly adapted to aging society.
We changed its basic layout in seat arrangement and expanded a space adapted for passengers of advanced age so that they can board the bus with ease. At the same time, with intention to design the new ERGA as driver-friendly, we equipped the new ERGA with the transmission lineup of AT or AMT for ease of drive and less stress for anyone behind the wheel.

Isuzu exhibits our products under the theme of Always Next To you – with vehicles as your partner, carry evolves into the future.
As a truck manufacturer, Isuzu delivers an extensive product portfolio to customers around the world, from pickup trucks in the light commercial vehicle segment to tractors powered by a huge 16-liter engine in the heavy-duty truck category. The Isuzu D-MAX, built originally for the Thai market, is exported from Thailand at present to more than 100 countries in the world. The Isuzu Elf, launched in 1959 and hailed as a standard bearer for light-duty trucks, has a huge worldwide following.
We at Isuzu always want to support people’s livelihood and bring a bright future to children around the world.

Isuzu announced its new mid-term business plan in May this year. Under this business plan, Isuzu will run two wheels of operations – “Engineering, sourcing and manufacturing to deliver technology and products which support commercial transportation” and “Aftersales to maximize uptime throughout life of vehicle”.
In engineering, sourcing and manufacturing operations, we will increase manufacturing operation and launch new products in ASEAN, China and India, among other markets. In aftersales, Isuzu will build and enhance the after-sales service network in emerging markets while offering a vehicle operation support program called “PRE-ISM” in advanced markets.

As a Japanese truck manufacturer rooted and developed in this country, we believe our technology in hardware (trucks and buses) and software originated and developed over the years in Japan in keeping with the advance of traffic and logistic systems here would surely meet customer needs across the world. In doing so, we trust Isuzu can contribute to safety and livelihood of people.

We look forward to your continued support and understanding as we make such efforts.
Thank you so much.
